Recognition from numerous entities shows that Spelman continues to be on the ascent as an academic institution focused on the success of its students. As the highest ranked institution from which Black women science and engineering doctorate recipients earn bachelor's degrees, according to the National Science Foundation, Spelman is a strong training ground for women who go on to careers in which they lead and excel.

Spelman College Junior Class Council President Mary Schmidt Campbell Quoted in 'Where College Students Are Most Inspired by Their Peers'

In a Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College survey, Spelman College was ranked #3 after Alverno College (#1) and The Master's University (#2), for Students' Top Schools for Inspiration.

In the Wall Street Journal article by by Douglas Belkin, President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., provided the following quotes underscoring the uniqueness of a college experience at Spelman.

“One of the things that is fundamental to the Spelman culture is the concept of the Spelman sisterhood,” says Mary Campbell, president of Spelman College, a historically black all-women’s school in Atlanta, which finished third in this category. “It means we certainly expect you to be ambitious for yourself, but we also expect you to be ambitious for each other. At Spelman, that connection begins early and continues beyond graduation. When Spelman students enter school for the first time they walk into a crowd of alumni. Commencement has a similar ceremony.
